OAKLAND — A male died Thursday morning after he was shot, apparently in West Oakland, authorities said.

Authorities were trying to confirm the victim’s name, age and where he lived.

He was dropped off unconscious at a hospital just before 5 a.m. by some people who then drove away in a car, authorities said.

After initial treatment at that hospital, he was transferred to another hospital where he later died.

Based on a gunshot detection system alert activation at 4:44 a.m. Thursday, police believe the shooting may have happened in the 2100 block of Myrtle Street in West Oakland, near Market Street and West Grand Avenue.

Numerous shell casings were found there and a residence was also hit by gunfire. No other injuries were reported.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No
