CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Wednesday the team's extensive four-game review revealed that execution, not scheme, was the main issue.

Following Sunday's 42-13 loss to New England , Canales and his staff spent two days analyzing what's gone wrong for the 1-3 Panthers.

"The bottom line is we have to give them something tangible to work towards so that we can continue to improve our processes," Canales said. "There's good stuff, and there's pockets of big plays on the defense, on special teams, offensively the lack of big plays."

The Panthers have struggled to generate explosive plays beyond first-round rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who is averaging 15.4 yards per reception. All other Carolina receivers are averaging just 7.2 yards per catch. Mc
