The Red Sox and Yankees will make postseason history in their decisive Game 3 on Thursday night.
Boston will send Connelly Early to the mound for his first playoff start, while New York will counter with Walpole’s Cam Schlittler .
It will mark the first game in postseason history between two starters making their 15th career appearance or fewers combined between the regular and postseason, as noted by MLB.com’s Sarah Langs .
It will also mark the second winner-take-all game that will feature two rookie starting pitchers. The last time this happened was during the 2020 National League Championship Series when Dustin May — then of the Los Angeles Dodgers — and Ian Anderson of the Atlanta Braves took the mound.
