Indianapolis Colts cornerback and four-time NFL Pro Bowl selectee Xavien Howard has retired from the NFL four games into the season, he announced Wednesday.
Howard, 32, is in his first season with Indianapolis after signing with the Colts in August. He played his first eight seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he earned his four Pro Bowls and one All-Pro selection. However, he missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from a Lisfranc foot injury.
“When I was away from the game in 2024, I fell in love with taking my kids to school, doing activities with them and watching them grow up,” Howard wrote in an Instagram post announcing his retirement. “Up to that point I had always put my family after football.
