Following today’s terrorist attack in Manchester, police officers are carrying out additional and dedicated patrols around synagogues and other Jewish venues throughout Scotland.

This morning two people were killed and a suspected terrorist was shot by police after a car was driven at pedestrians outside a synagogue in Manchester.

Three other people were left seriously injured by the attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Middleton Road in Crumpsall.

The attack took place on Yom Kippur in an area of north Manchester with a large Jewish community.

The activity is part of Police Scotland’s existing policing plan for the Jewish High Holy Days.

Officers are also actively communicating with faith leaders and community leaders and have appealed to members of the public
