GORHAM, Maine — A second teenager has been arrested following a search that prompted three schools in Gorham to enact safety protocols on Thursday.

Gorham police said the secure status was connected to an arrest at a home on Preble Street. Officers were assisting South Portland police as part of a shooting investigation. School officials said there was "no immediate threat" to students when the safety protocol was enacted.

Village Elementary School, Gorham Middle School, and Gorham High School were placed under the "secure status" until 1:30 p.m. due to a police situation in a nearby neighborhood.

Gorham High School Principal Brian Jandreau said in a letter to families that there was no threat inside the schools and that the protocol was enacted as a precautionary measure.
