Calling all skywatchers and moon gazers!

On Oct. 6, a supermoon will rise bigger and brighter, casting an eerie glow that makes the night feel straight out of a Halloween legend.

This month’s full moon is referred to as the Harvest Moon because it is prime time for fall harvesting of cultivated crops, nuts and late fruits, according to the Farmers’ Almanac . Depending on the region, various crops are harvested at different times, resulting in alternative harvest-related names.

Rising near the autumnal equinox , farmers would work under the light of the harvest moon to bring in the last of summer's bounty.
