LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) has announced the results of a new study from Michigan State University, which highlights how access to child care directly impacts parents’ participation in the workforce.
The MSU study found that limited access to licensed child care significantly reduces workforce participation, particularly among women, and underscores the broader economic consequences for Michigan’s labor market and economy.
According to the study, families living farther from licensed child care providers are considerably less likely to participate in the labor force.
