The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a strong weather alert on Thursday, stating heavy to very heavy rains will continue in Odisha districts through the night, with southern coastal districts expected to be the most affected.

Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the IMD, informed that winds are currently blowing at speeds between 55 to 65 kmph, especially over and around the Bay of Bengal, posing serious risks in low-lying areas.

“There is a risk of flooding in vulnerable areas and landslides in hilly regions. Coastal districts are already experiencing relentless rainfall, and the situation is likely to improve only by tomorrow morning,” said the IMD DG.
