If you’ve been noticing slow-moving brown stink bugs creeping around your windows and doors as we get deeper into fall, you’re not alone.

They can be especially unnerving when they fly across the room.

Lots of Michigan residents are seeing these unwelcome visitors seeking shelter in their homes. They’re known as the brown marmorated stink bug. These invasive insects, known for their shield-shaped bodies and distinctive odor, are becoming an increasing nuisance across the state.

First discovered in Michigan in 2011, these pests native to eastern Asia have since established themselves throughout the region. Beyond their unpleasant smell, they cause damage to plants and fruit wherever they go.
