The San Francisco 49ers are set to take on the Los Angeles Rams on "Thursday Night Football" in Week 5.
Or rather, what's left of the 49ers will be playing against the Rams.
San Francisco has been plagued by injuries in the early stages of the 2025 NFL season. The 49ers will be missing a good chunk of their starting offense for Thursday's game against the Rams, while several key defensive pieces, including star edge rusher Nick Bosa, will be unavailable for the contest.
Just how banged up are the 49ers? Here's a look at their full injury report and the 19 players they will be without for "TNF."
49ers injury report Week 5
The 49ers have ruled five players out for their "Thursday Night Football" game against the Rams in Week 5. They are as follows.
- QB Brock Purdy (toe)
- WR Jauan Jennings (rib/ankle)
- WR Ricky Pearsall (knee)
- WR Jordan Watkins (calf)
- DL Robert Beal Jr. (ankle)
The 49ers are also listing defensive tackle CJ West as "questionable" for the game because of a thumb injury.
San Francisco also 14 players on their injured reserve (IR), physically unable to perform (PUP) list and the non-football injury (NFI) list. Below is a run-down of those players.
IR
- DE Nick Bosa (knee)
- TE George Kittle (hamstring)
- G Ben Bartch (ankle)
- OL Spencer Burford (knee)
- DT Kevin Givens (pectoral)
- WR Jacob Cowing (hamstring)
- WR Trent Taylor (back)
- CB Jakob Robinson (forearm)
- CB Tre Tomlinson (undisclosed)
- RB Patrick Taylor Jr. (shoulder)
- DE Tarron Jackson (neck)
PUP
- WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee)
- S Malik Mustapha (knee)
NFI
- QB Kurtis Rourke (knee)
These injuries have thinned the 49ers across several positions, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
49ers QB depth chart
The 49ers are set to start Mac Jones for the third time in 2025 with Purdy once again out due to injury. San Francisco now has just two healthy quarterbacks in its organization, as their depth chart reflects.
- Mac Jones
- Adrian Martinez (practice squad)
Jones has posted a 2-0 record in relief of Purdy this season while completing 66.3% of his passes for 563 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Martinez – the 2024 UFL MVP who has never played a regular-season NFL snap – will back him up against the Rams.
49ers WR depth chart
San Francisco is particularly depleted at receiver. The 49ers' top three receivers – Aiyuk, Jennings and Pearsall – are all out for Thursday's contest along with Watkins, a fourth-round rookie. That will force the team to rely on a plethora of veterans it acquired during the offseason.
Below is a look at the projected pecking order within that unit.
- Kendrick Bourne
- Demarcus Robinson
- Marquez Valdes-Scantling
- Skyy Moore
- Russell Gage (practice squad)
Bourne has paced this group of receivers in catches (8) and yards (87), so he should be the top target with the top wide-outs unavailable. The remaining four receivers have combined to record just three catches thus far in 2025.
The 49ers also have seventh-round rookie Junior Bergen and veteran Malik Turner on their practice squad, but the two have combined for just one offensive snap thus far during the 2025 NFL season.
49ers TE depth chart
The 49ers are also without their top tight end, as Kittle is on IR with a hamstring strain. He may return soon, but until he does, San Francisco will primarily rely on his two backups to replace his production.
Below is a look at the 49ers' tight end room.
- Jake Tonges
- Luke Farrell
- Brayden Willis
Tonges has been the primary receiving threat among the tight end room, posting 12 catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns in place of Kittle. Farrell has worked in tandem with him as a top blocker, as the duo have handled most of the snaps at the position since Kittle's injury.
Willis has played just nine offensive snaps for the 49ers while Messiah Swinson provides extra depth on the practice squad.
