Keir Starmer has warned that the UK is facing a “rising” tide of anti-semitism after two people were killed and four others seriously injured following a terror attack on a synagogue in Manchester.

The prime minister declared “Britain must defeat it once again” as he said police patrols at Jewish places of worship would be stepped up in the days ahead.

Speaking directly to Britain’s Jews, he said: “Britain will come together to wrap our arms around your community and show you that Britain is a place where you and your family are safe, secure and belong.”

Police were called to the Heaton Park synagogue on Thursday morning after the attacker drove his car into members of the public before attacking people with a knife.
