Lawyers representing Mississippi death row inmate Charles Ray Crawford, 59, filed two legal requests Wednesday, Oct. 1, before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The first request, an Emergency Application for Stay of Execution, is asking the court to temporarily halt Crawford's execution.
The second request, a certiorari petition, is seeking the court's review of Crawford's case to potentially overturn or modify the lower court's decision.
The filings come weeks before Crawford's scheduled execution , set for 6 p.m. Oct. 15, 2025.
Crawford, now 59, was convicted and sentenced to death in 1994 for the 1993 kidnapping, rape and murder of Kristy Ray from her Tippah County home in the Chalybeate community. Ray was a 20-year-old student at Northeast Mississippi Community College student.
