An Alabama construction worker and United States citizen said he was arrested twice by federal immigration agents who claimed his driver’s license was fake.
Leonardo Garcia Venegas lives and works in Baldwin County. He was arrested on two different occasions in 2025 when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided his work sites, according to a federal lawsuit he filed this week.
A spokesperson for ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that arrests are not based on race and ethnicity.
