A 53-year-old New Jersey man died by suicide in the Camden County jail a day after he was convicted of killing his wife , authorities said.

Shawn Lichtfuss was found unresponsive at about 11:15 p.m. on Sept. 19 while corrections officers were conducting cell checks, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday.

Lichtfuss was pronounced dead a short time later. An investigation conducted by the prosecutor’s office concluded the Voorhees resident suffocated himself.

Authorities did not provide any additional details about Lichtfuss’ death.

Lichtfuss was convicted of murder by a jury on Sept. 18. He killed his 38-year-old wife Stefanie Caraway in their apartment following an argument on Aug. 3, 2021.
