CHICAGO, Ill. (KWQC) - A former Galena police officer pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography and was sentenced to prison.

Eli Barthel , 23, of Freeport was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to one felony county of child pornography, court records show.

According to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s Office, Barthel was arrested in June after an investigation by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the FBI.

Investigators searched Barthel’s home and found evidence of child-sexual-abuse material, the office said.

Raoul’s office co-prosecuted the case with Stephenson County State’s Attorney Carl Larson’s office.
