A city of Hollywood employee in the building and zoning department has been arrested following an investigation into bribery and extortion, city officials said.

Roberto Meneses, 38, was arrested Wednesday on charges of unlawful compensation, bribery of a public servant, scheme to defraud, and grand theft, Broward jail records showed. Broward Sheriff's Office

According to a city spokesperson, the investigation into Meneses, a zoning plans reviewer and inspector, began in May amid allegations of bribery and extortion being committed in his capacity as a city employee.

According to an arrest affidavit, Meneses solicited money from people who needed help with permitting issues.
