BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York State has issued a temporary statewide burn ban beginning, starting Thursday, in response to rising fire danger and prolonged dry conditions.

Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said the burn ban will remain in effect through Oct. 15 and will be reevaluated before it expires.

"The ongoing nice weather is great for watching fall foliage or gathering with friends, but it also presents a higher risk for fires that put homes, businesses and our brave first responders at risk," Governor Hochul said in a statement.
