PORTSMOUTH — Melville Elementary School has again set itself apart in Rhode Island education, earning the newly created State of Rhode Island Blue Ribbon Schools Award as an exemplary high-performing school.

Dan McKee, Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green, and the R.I. Department of Education (RIDE), places Melville among only three schools statewide to receive the honor in 2025. Pocasset Elementary in Tiverton and Robert L. Bailey IV Elementary in Providence were also selected.
For Portsmouth, the award builds on a milestone already reached earlier this year, when Melville became the first Portsmouth public school to receive
