LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police detailed their plans for expanding the use of drones to support police response to 911 calls during a September news conference.

Privacy concerns have been addressed in the rollout of "Project Blue Sky Phase 2," according to Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren. Phase 2 involves establishing 13 "hives" — docking stations equipped with three drones — that will be piloted remotely and become part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's first-response strategy.

During the presentation, Koren said police anticipate public acceptance of the new technology. A drone with blue and red lights is a sign to residents that police are aware of a problem and are responding, he said.
