MADISON, Wis. -- The Madison police officer who was seriously injured after a head-on crash with a tow truck was still in the hospital Thursday, police said, and was working on his recovery.
Officer Ryan Kimberley's squad car was struck head-on by a tow truck on Saturday. Police said the truck's driver, 36-year-old Christopher Brugger, led officers on a dangerous chase that ended after he crashed into Kimberley's car.
Brugger faces a litany of charges stemming from the chase including felony first-degree recklessly endangering safety and felony hit-and-run causing great bodily harm.
Kimberley's partner, K9 Freddie, was with him at the time of the crash. K9 Freddie suffered minor injuries in the collision and has since been released from veterinary care.
