TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Tucson Police Department says a pedestrian is dead after being hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning, October 1.

The driver who hit the individual left the scene.

Police say the crash happened the 1100 block of South 6 th Avenue.

The TPD says 52-year-old Jorge Alberto Mejia was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police say Mejia tried to cross 6th Avenue, north of 22nd Street, when he was hit by what appeared to be a light-colored SUV.

The SUV was driving north on 6th Avenue.

The TPD says Mejia was not in a marked or implied crosswalk when he was hit.

Police say finding the suspect vehicle and driver that left the scene is now the primary focus.
