Ben Rice was well-versed on the Red Sox -Yankees rivalry having grown up in Cohasset and being a fan of Boston’s biggest rival.
Now he’s part of it as New York’s first baseman playing against the Red Sox in the American League Wild Card series .
“It’s unbelievable,” Rice told reporters after the Yankees’ Game 2 win on Wednesday night. “So cool to be a part of the rivalry now. Just given where I’m from and where I grew up, just makes it all that much more special.”
Rice didn’t start in New York’s Game 1 loss, but came up big in Game 2 with a home run off Brayan Bello in his first career postseason at-bat en route to New York forcing a decisive Game 3 .
