The city of Pittsburgh is installing its latest set of traffic-calming measures on Southern Avenue, a steep residential street in Mount Washington, after locals requested a traffic study that showed the majority of drivers were speeding on the road.

Workers began constructing five speed tables — or elongated speed bumps that are designed to reduce vehicle speeds — on Thursday morning. They are also adding pavement markings and signage along the road to alert drivers.

The city said it expects to complete installation Friday. Temporary no parking signs are posted in the construction area and flaggers will guide alternating traffic. There may be temporary delays.
