The South Carolina Department of Health has confirmed that the recent measles cases in the Upstate are part of an ongoing outbreak affecting multiple people.
The agency stated that, as of Oct. 1, eight cases had been confirmed in the state, with five of those cases occurring in the past month. Authorities said those five are part of a newly identified outbreak, defined as three or more linked cases. All of those involved in this outbreak were unvaccinated and lacked immunity before becoming infected, and two cases had no history of travel or a known source, which may indicate unrecognized community spread.
The patients are now isolating themselves as the state investigates to find other people who may have been exposed to the infection. The first two South Carolina cases of 2025 were in
