WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nearly 100,000 Evermore Surprise Eggs are being recalled nationwide after federal regulators found that a toy inside the product contains dangerous levels of lead.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday that the recall affects about 98,350 units of Evermore Surprise Eggs sold at 7-Eleven, Horizon, Speedway and Murphy stores between March and April for about $10 each.

According to the CPSC, the gold-colored eggs, wrapped in yellow, pink or green foil, contain seven small toys, including a toy airplane that exceeds the federal lead content ban. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause serious health problems including lead poisoning.
