(FOX40.COM) — Two public safety bills authored by Sen. Kelly Seyarto were signed into law on Thursday, prioritizing public safety officers and supporting law enforcement training.

SB 87 will extend sales tax exemption through 2031 for all-volunteer fire departments' income from fundraising activities, which was originally set to end in 2026. Seyarto said that California has 250 all-volunteer fire departments, which utilize fundraising activities to keep their departments running, purchase equipment and gear in order to keep their communities safe.
