Jason Williams, director of the Taxpayer Association of Oregon, Senate Minority Leader Bruce Starr, R-Dundee, and Rep. Ed Diehl, R-Stayton, said they will be the chief petitioners of a referendum to roll back tax increases approved during the Oregon special session on transportation funding .

House Bill 3991 is one of two bills passed during the monthlong special legislative session to direct funding to the Oregon Department of Transportation and immediately stave off hundreds of ODOT layoffs.

HB3991 is expected to raise $4.3 billion over the next decade. It adds a new charge for electric vehicles, bumps the payroll tax until 2028, increases vehicle registration and title fees and adds six cents per gallon to the gas tax.

Petitioners will have 90 days from when the legislature adjourn
