BUXTON, N.C. — Cape Hatteras National Seashore will deploy about two dozen staff to Buxton on Friday to assist with cleanup following recent house collapses along the village’s shoreline.
Seashore personnel will focus on collecting debris south of the collapse sites, between the southern end of Buxton and Cape Point, to protect National Park Service resources and ensure visitor safety. Property owners are asked to remove debris from village beach areas so Dare County’s debris removal contractor can dispose of it along right-of-ways.
Officials warn that further collapses are possible in Buxton and nearby Rodanthe. Visitors are urged to stay away from houses in the water and exercise caution around debris.
For public safety, the entire beachfront from northern Buxton through off-road veh
