An Athens man accused of shooting his son in early July has now been indicted for attempted murder, according to court documents.

Court documents filed Friday show a Limestone County grand jury charges that 84-year-old Charles Lynn Lewis intended to commit the crime of murder by shooting the victim.

The shooting happened on July 9 on Sanderson Lane in Athens, leaving Lewis' son injured.

Following the incident, the Limestone County Sheriff's Office said Lewis was accused of luring his son to the scene and shooting him during a personal dispute.

Just before the shooting, Lewis allegedly told the victim he intended to kill him and then produced a handgun.

As the victim attempted to flee, Lewis reportedly fired two shots, striking the victim once in the back.
