Women and children staying in a women’s shelter in Corsicana lost everything overnight after a raging fire tore through the shelter.
The House of Refuge is a women’s shelter founded in 1985 that helps women and their children transition to self-sufficiency and permanent housing. The women and children staying at the home lost everything in the fire, but fortunately, they all got out safely.
“Of course, they were shaken up,” said Melissa Castillo, executive director of Compassion Corsicana, which operates the House of Refuge. “They lost what little they did have. They seem to be in good spirits.”
