KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The detention officer charged with second-degree murder in the death of a Wyandotte County inmate knelt on the man’s back for longer than a minute, court records showed Thursday.
A “statement of facts” affidavit from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation indicated that Deputy Richard Fatherley had placed his left leg on the lower part of 50-year-old Charles Adair’s back inside his cell the evening of July 5. Adair later died, and Fatherley was charged with murder days later after the death was ruled a homicide .
The court document released Thursday described Adair as having erratic behavior throughout the day, yelling profanities, throwing himself out of his wheelchair and even exposing himself in front of deputies.
