SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The University of Rhode Island (URI) is investigating hazing allegations against one of its fraternities.

The Kappa Iota Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity has been placed on interim suspension, the international fraternity's executive vice president, Justin A. Buck, confirmed to 12 News on Thursday.

According to Buck, the international fraternity is "working closely with" the university.

"Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity does not tolerate hazing, mistreatment of members, or any activities that do not treat individuals with dignity and respect," Buck said.

In a statement, URI said it treats all hazing allegations with “the utmost seriousness.”
