SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Mayor Tom Arceneaux’s proposed budget plan for 2026 has a new surcharge to tackle several abandoned apartment complexes throughout the city.

According to the budget plan, a 2% surcharge will be added to all water and sewer bills. This includes commercial and industrial property.

For regular residents, this should only add a dollar or two to your total bill. The surcharge will last for eighteen months. By then, this should raise $3 million. The mayor says all the money will go to clearing out abandoned buildings.
