HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Several creative high school art students from across Nebraska participated in the 10th annual Mural Day Competition at Hastings College on Wednesday.

The competition featured 200 students from 36 high schools, who created murals, but there was a catch, these students would not know the theme of the mural until after they arrived at 10:30 a.m. and they would have until 2 p.m. to have a mural done.

For this year’s theme, the competitors were given a list of animals, environments and inanimate objects to choose from and each had to be included in their mural.

Organizer and Hastings College art instructor, Turner Mcghee said one way the event has evolved is how the teachers prepare their students.
