SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced that it will not take fraud complaints or help block spam calls during the government shutdown. That is unfortunate because, according to the Better Business Bureau, we can expect an increase in fraud. After all, the government shutdown creates opportunities for scammers. The federal government shut down just after midnight Wednesday morning. But the impact goes far beyond government services.

"Scammers are opportunists, so their mouths have been salivating that this is going to happen," said Jessie Schmidt of the Better Business Bureau in Sioux Falls.

Schmidt says we can expect dishonest people to take advantage of the Government shutdown.
