BATTLE GROUND — Despite their best efforts, few Battle Ground football players and coaches have succeeded in getting senior Bryland Fick to crack a smile.

The Tigers’ kicker and punter is known for his legendary poker face, one of many reasons why Battle Ground coach Mike Woodward believes Fick is the best man for a challenging job.

“Personality-wise, he’s probably the most stoic kid I’ve ever coached, which is great for a kicker. Perfect fit,” Woodward said. “He’s like one of those Greek philosophers. … He’s got the game face on 24/7.

“We’re constantly trying to get a rise out of this kid, get him to laugh and smile. He won’t do it. He’s all business.”

With that mindset, and Battle Ground fully behind its special teams standout, Fick has flourished during his four-year prep career.
