ANNA MARIA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - To ease traffic on and off Anna Maria Island, the Gulf Islands Ferry is adding more stops.

Manatee County commissioners and locals alike are excited about the possibility of adding new stops to the ferry system.

“Parking is really bad over in the island,” Taylor Bell, a Manatee County resident said. “I didn’t even think about because the drive itself is already congested, and then you do get over there and you’re still looking for a spot.”

Manatee County District 3 Commissioner Tal Siddique says with the ferry system, over 10,000 cars have been taken off the road each month.

The ferry currently has two stops... But with the additions they are looking to add one in Coquina South and possibly two in Palmetto.
