A USPS policy on postmark dates could impact ballots that come in on election day.

The auditor's office will mail ballots by Friday, Oct. 17, marking the start of the 18-day voting period through Nov. 4.

County Auditor Paul Andrews recommends voters use one of the 27 drop boxes in Kitsap, or mail votes by Oct. 28.

Recently updated United States Postal Service policy could mean voters sending ballots by mail on election day, or even days before, may have their votes discarded in the coming November general election due to postmarking delays.

The Kitsap County Auditor is recommending that voters using USPS to participate in the Nov. 4 election vote by Oct. 28 to be sure their ballot is counted.
