COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - One of the top issues facing law enforcement in South Carolina is recruiting and keeping their officers.

The state’s senior US senator is pitching what he believes is a potential solution, which would support a key effort from the Trump administration.

Sen. Lindsey Graham wants to give state and local law enforcement agencies extra money if they help out with federal immigration enforcement efforts.

Graham announced the idea alongside South Carolina’s governor and several sheriffs at the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association office in Columbia on Thursday.

“Have the federal government reward states like South Carolina, who help the federal government with one of its biggest problems, illegal immigration,” Graham said.
