GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — A Golden Valley food shelf is bouncing back after a power outage forced it to dump thousands of pounds of food.
Two weeks ago, a storm rolled through, and lightning struck a telephone pole outside PRISM's building.
“It’s all black, charred all around. We had a power line down across our driveway,” said PRISM Executive Director Michelle Ness.
Ness said the power outage lasted for 12 hours.
“When the power did come back on, it blew a breaker for a refrigerator,” Ness said.
She said they couldn’t get someone to repair it until the following Monday, so they had to throw away all of their food in the refrigerator.
“About 6,000 pounds of food is what we needed to get rid of altogether, 648 half gallons of milk,” she said. “It’s just really unfortunate the need is so
