FARGO — Trailing 4-1 in the second set, West Fargo Sheyenne’s Brandt Aslakson knew he could shift his fate with him serving the next game.

The senior was right.

Aslakson won 6-1, 7-5 to defeat Grand Forks Central senior Jason Ling. Ling won the previous two matches the pair played this fall.

“It was good to come out and get an early lead,” Aslakson said of the winning the first set. “The forehand was working.”

The match helped the top-seeded Mustangs defeat No. 2-seeded Central 4-1 in the Eastern Dakota Conference boys tennis team championship on Thursday at Courts Plus.

“To be able to win these matches with (my teammates) is just an unbelievable experience,” Aslakson said of winning the team title.

The championship marked the second consecutive team title for Sheyenne.
