PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Port Arthur Memorial High School 'Marching Heat' band received $125,000 from the district to purchase new instruments and equipment as the program prepares for a major competition this weekend.

Band Director Alex Frazier said the funding arrives as the program experiences unprecedented growth, expanding from 45 students three years ago to 160 current members.

"It's great when your community supports you and they follow that support with action," Frazier said.

The Port Arthur Memorial High School 'Marching Heat' band will compete Saturday in Baton Rouge for the Best Band of the South title, against top programs from across the region.
