The White House is pressuring nine major universities to adopt President Donald Trump’s political priorities in exchange for expanded access to federal grants. A document called the “Compact for Academic Excellence” urges schools to align with administration policies on admissions, women’s sports, and free speech, while rejecting the use of race and gender in admissions decisions. Institutions contacted include Dartmouth, USC, MIT, and Brown. California Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the plan, warning that any state university signing the compact would immediately lose billions in state support, including Cal Grants.
