Canada’s national passenger rail service, Via Rail, says one of its trains was involved in a collision east of Oshawa which has suspended service on multiple routes.

The Crown corporation told CityNews that train 66 from Toronto to Montreal was involved in a crash at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.

“No passengers or onboard service crew were injured. Our thoughts are with those affected by this event,” a spokesperson said.

Via Rail did not say what caused the crash. Local authorities and paramedics could not be reached for comment.

A tipster on board the train reached out to CityNews claiming that the train struck a vehicle on the tracks before coming to a sudden stop.
