TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Shoppers have been pushing their carts into the Food City on 6th Avenue in South Tucson for almost 25 years. Now, they’ll need to find a new spot to stock up their fridge.
Food City told 13 News that the closing was purely a financial decision.
South Tucson City councilmember Brian Flagg says he thinks it’s because of their city’s supermarket tax; the highest in Pima County.
“If the taxes are too high compared to the city of Tucson, we lose out and that’s what’s happening right this second,” Flagg said.
Now, it’s a race by the city of South Tucson to find a way to get a new staple in the food giant’s place.
“We need revenue and so we need to work hard at developing Police, Fire, and a community that looks good and feels good to people who might come in and do
