JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) -- Jackson College is now a training ground for officers to participate in a three-day-long active shooter exercise to educate and test emergency readiness plans.
"This is the first time that we've been able to do it at a college facility with four stories, So we've had the different stairs as an obstacle that we've had to train to work through," said Jackson County Sergeant Kyle Ruge.
In the wake of Sunday's church shooting in Grand Blanc, Jackson area police, fire crews, and paramedics are taking part in a simulation event to prepare for the unthinkable.
"When we respond, we want to first stop the killing, then stop the bleeding. That is what the fire department helps us with is stopping the bleeding," Ruge said.
