NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Department is tightening its rules for truck drivers. The department will pause commercial driver's licenses and learner's permits to foreign nationals who do not have a permanent residence in the United States. The pause comes after the feds restricted who is eligible for a non-domiciled commercial driver's license.

The change applies to both new licenses and renewals. MVD will still issue CDLs and permits to those who present a passport and a proper arrival document. "As of right now, the federal government is not requiring states to revoke what they have already issued.
