With the exhibition season almost over, the Detroit Red Wings pared down their roster and fielded a lineup closer to what will be on the ice in another week.

A few prospects – and not every veteran – did make the trip to Toronto to play the Maple Leafs on Thursday, Oct. 2 at Scotiabank Arena, where the Wings went with a formation of 11 forwards and seven defensemen. The Wings rallied from an early deficit and scored three times in the the third period to win, 3-1.

The Leafs played most of their regulars, and superstar Auston Matthews made his presence known with a power play goal two minutes after puck drop. Wings captain Dylan Larkin tied it up five minutes into the third period when he converted Ben Chiarot's rebound past Anthony Stolarz. Seven minutes later, Michael Brandsegg-Nygår
