GRAND FORKS — A familiar face in Grand Forks is moving from longtime prosecutor to judge.

Andrew Eyre was sworn in Thursday, Oct. 2, as the newest judge of the Northeast Central Judicial District, which covers Grand Forks and Nelson counties.

Eyre had served as a prosecutor in Grand Forks County for the past 12 years. Gov. Kelly Armstrong said he selected Eyre for his wit, mental acuity and respect for the law.

During his swearing-in speech, Eyre highlighted the importance of civility and professionalism on the bench.

"It means the courage to make an unpopular decision that won't get you any votes because the law requires you to do it," Eyre said.

When Eyre is not on the bench, he coaches youth soccer and youth hockey.
